Why doesn't GitHub sort by date and language correctly?

I often come across the fact that github does not do it correctly when sorting projects by update date and language. I can’t give a good example right off the bat, but it happens that after sorting at the top there are old projects and only then more relevant ones.
Well, let's say sorted by update date . And something not quite expected got out.

I also often come across that GIT does not correctly determine the project language. Why is this happening? Why do a crooked autodetect if the developer himself can specify the language in which the project is written.

Did the same for "Recently updated" myself, didn't find the problem.
So this is not a git task. The fact that github also quite correctly displays, many projects are written in two or more languages, so this issue is also present in the ranking.
People lie, no reason.
