Why doesn't FirebaseInstanceIdService work in Release Mode?

The FirebaseInstanceIdService service works fine in Debug Mode, but fails in Release mode.
What could be the difference in build modes regarding this? What can interfere with the service?
The necessary rights are specified in the manifest.
I would be grateful for any of your suggestions and advice, colleagues.

You probably only registered the debug key in the Firebase console. Add a release as well. The same problem occurs if you use different package names for assemblies. All packages must be registered.
