Why does Ubuntu consume more power than Windows?

I play video at maximum volume in full screen or
browse the Web over WiFi.
Under Windows 7 lasts ~5 hours.
Under Kubuntu 10.10 only ~2 hours.
I have an Acer Aspire 1810TZ. Battery wear is 90%.
Installed:
acpid
acpi-support
pm-utils
upower
Not installed:
laptop-mode-tools
I love Linux, I'm not going to change.
What to do to make it work no less?

Because iron manufacturers suppress information about it. Hardware is designed to work under Windows and only Windows driver developers have enough information to fully manage the power of devices.

Roll yourself a bucket from 11.04 bubunts. They seemed to be seriously shamanized there, my netbook jumped from 4 to almost 7 hours.
