Why does Ubuntu 12.04 freeze with 2 open browsers (Chrome and Firefox) and ~10 bookmarks each?
Everything works quickly at first. But at some point after opening a page with a lot of content (for example, I expand 300-500 comments on Vkontakte or open a page with Flash), the whole system starts to freeze very much. Folders open slowly, the cursor does not immediately respond to mouse movement.
A particular problem also arises when there are Flash elements on the site. They are just terribly slow. And for example, it is generally impossible to play a Flash game, a very late response to all commands.
RAM in the machine is 2 GB, the cache in browsers is 1 GB.

Most likely you do not have enough memory, not very fast swapping is turned on, so it starts to blunt.
As a temporary measure, you can put ZRAM - you will get a little memory almost on the ball (depending on the application), but in general buy up to 4, and even better 8 GB, it costs little now.
