Why does the teacher think so?

I have been suffering with this question for 5 years already!)
I remembered that when I was studying at the University, there was one teacher who said that associative arrays cannot exist in php!
Why did the teacher think so?

Perhaps the teacher did not know php well, or at the time when he taught him there were no associative arrays in PHP yet. Do not pay attention, focus not on the teacher, but on the documentation. And be sure to talk to the teacher about this topic so that he will no longer be dishonored.

He confused something or meant something else by associative arrays.

perhaps this phrase was in some context. one should at least know what he meant by 'associative array'. maybe not only a theoretical definition, but along with the implementation

What are usually called arrays in PHP are associative arrays.
Maybe the teacher meant that there are no classical arrays?
But they already exist: php.net/manual/en/class.splfixedarray.php

Wow. And my colleague lied to me that in PHP, apart from associative other arrays, there are none. And he also said that PHP does not have a specification, and the manual for each version is separate. My head is spinning, how do you cook it?
