Start by removing the hard drive from your laptop and plug it directly into your Windows desktop. Check if it is visible in the BIOS there. If there is a disk in the BIOS, then download R.tester and look at SMART, you can also do automatic diagnostics.
If, when you turn on the laptop, the hard drive makes any non-standard sounds - clicks, rattles, squeaks, and the like, then stop, do nothing on your own, even a simple attempt to turn it on can finish the hard drive to a state where nothing can be done.
No programs can be used.
If there is no other computer, or the hard drive is not visible when connected, or it makes extraneous noise, and there is important information on it, thenchoose a data recovery company and go to them for diagnostics. Adequate diagnostics are done at the owner and for free. At a minimum, this will help to fully understand the situation, as a maximum - to save your files.
