Why does the default emulator work great on Ubuntu but terrible on Windows?

Two operating systems are installed on one PC - Windows 10 and Ubuntu 14 LTS. In Ubuntu, the standard emulator (in this case, Nexus 4 with Android 4.2.2) works fine with Genymotion-level speed, but the same emulator with the same parameters in Windows 10 works just unbearably slow and impossible to work with. Why is this happening?
