Why does prestashop give an error when installing?

There can be many reasons.
A couple of solutions:
1. Rename .htaccess in ftp root
2. For PrestaShop v1.5+
Open config/defines.inc.php
Find: ('_PS_MODE_DEV_', false);
Change to: ('_PS_MODE_DEV_', true);
Refresh page and see errors
