Why does my laptop sound quiet?

Good afternoon,
On the Asus s451lb computer, after updating the drivers and Windows to 8.1, the sound became very quiet.
If earlier it was easy to listen to music at 50% volume, now even at full volume it is very uncomfortable to watch a movie in complete silence, you have to strain your hearing a lot. And the speakers began to somehow hiss slightly.
What can be done about it, how to fix it? I would be grateful if someone could help.

I assume that something happened to the equalizer (in short). More specifically, you need to poke around either in the sound management program from the vendor, if there is one, or dig a little deeper into the sound settings.
