Why does my computer freeze on one web page?

Good day.
Tip:
We have a computer with configurations: 1 GB RAM, AMD64 Athlon 2.03 GHz
System: Windows XP Pro
Software used: CryptoPro, Internet Explorer 8
Used for: electronic bidding (auction)

Fairy tale:
When bidding starts, the computer freezes hopelessly. The iexplorer.exe process eats up 150+ MB of RAM and loads the processor at 100%.

Question:
Why and how to fix?

Options: perhaps everything happens due to the frequent updating of the page content (once every 5 seconds). There is also an idea about encryption and using the https protocol, but I doubt it very much. Tell me what to do if you don’t really want to update hardware and OS (you see, there is no money ...)

$ 120 to replace the platform type is not present ??? Do they participate in the auction?
Why hasn't IE7 been upgraded to IE8?

@mr_jok

if you don't want problems, leave AMD and start a "zoo" from different versions of MS IE

@nazarpc

So put a sane browser. If there are problems in IE (and there definitely were and are many problems in it) - no one will ever update it anyway.
Install Chromium/Firefox and you will be happy.
