For correct stabilization in motion (MotionEstimation), the function of detecting the presence of a face in the image (Face detector) is used. Perhaps some post-processing in the Hyperlapse style is planned to correct the blurring of photos.
And the plus application most likely contains a call to the same function, so that later you can prompt you to mark people in the image. It's not face detection, it's just detecting the presence of a face in an image. Quite a trivial function.
If there was face recognition, then there would be facial recognition in the logs.
