Why does ESXi freeze, but virtual machines work?

I don’t have much experience in ESXi, but on one host such a problem periodically began to arise: the hypervisor itself hangs, but the VMs continue to work correctly and are accessible. The hypervisor itself does not even ping by IP address, it breaks connections, like Connection Refused.
Tell me, in which direction to dig in general and where to look at the logs, or what?

The hypervisor was on an SSD, which was also connected by data storage, but as such was not used. I put the system on a USB flash drive, monitored the storage. It doesn't seem to hang...

I would try to enable ssh, connect to the server when it is not "hanging" and look in the logs for the date / time of the last hang. Check free space.
Is there nothing in the web muzzle, in the logs of ESXi itself?
How do you get out of a hung state?
