Why does Chrome use more than 1 gigabyte of RAM in normal mode?

Why is Chrome using a lot of RAM memory and CPU resources?
I have a fairly powerful mobile i5 6th generation. The card is not a game, but not built-in. Some sites just slow down. The system was installed not long ago.
