Why do you need a video editing board?

Why do you need a video editing board? What opportunities does it provide? In its absence, you can mount using software, what's the point?

Basically, for digitizing analog video signal. And then software.

If you don't know what a video editing board is for, then you don't need it. It is not directly involved in "gluing video pieces" and the vast majority of people working with video in one way or another will hardly ever need it.
