Why do you need a diode bridge in poe pd?
Devices that are powered by POE have a diode bridge at the input.
I understand that it is needed minimally in order to correctly handle the situation with different polarity from PSE.
Does it have another purpose?

Well, like, if a crossover cable is screwed in, the plus and minus in some pinout options ( 10/100 Mixed DC & Data (method A) ) will get mixed up. To confuse them back - they put up a bridge.
