Why do you need a dedicated ip for ssl?
I have a vps using nginx. I connected one cert to one domain, another to another (wild card costs leneg :). Everything seems to be working fine, then why do hosting companies ask for a dedicated ip?

No reason for a long time. It's been 10 years now that SNI has been with us.
then it's easier to generate Apache configs from the
input IP port
than to come up with a port layout, and so on.
In short, it’s not necessary, but in fact often admins simply don’t know how to do it differently.
