Why do WP template designers make such huge headers (sliders)?

Hi all. Once again I am choosing a template for a WP site and noticed that almost every template (I looked at completely different topics) has a disgusting header in the form of a huge picture on the floor of the screen or a slider with a set of such pictures of 300kb+ each. For what?

This is such a fashion, they say right away the main picture is on the forehead, but it’s not usable at all, I agree.
Pictures may not be compressed.

Recently there was an article on Habré. Just about capturing attention with pictures. There is also an analytics somewhere nearby.

This is advertising, the first thing that catches the eye of the average layman. The people who work with this are well aware that this can be bullshit.
