Why do the letter keys not work in the game with the Russian layout (Ubuntu)?

I go into the game in the English layout, switch to Russian (I don’t know exactly what causes the problem), I write to the chat, I turn the game around, and the letter control disappears. The same problem, by the way, was in Windows 10 (but there you could just switch back to English and everything worked again, on Ubuntu only restarting with the English layout helps).
I read somewhere that this is due to the binding of keys to a character, and not to a position. What can you advise (except for not using Russian)

You can try to change the control in the game to Russian letters. And if the game has such that you can put 2 keys, then put both Russian and English)
