Why do monitors on 2 video cards go out at the same time (no signal)?

First, everything goes out, then they flicker with artifacts, and then finally "no signal" hangs on all monitors. After the reboot everything is in a bunch. I thought the video card, but I have two monitors connected to a discrete one, and one to the built-in one. What could be the problem?
