Why do members often answer a question in the comments below the original post instead of in the dedicated section?

Often I see the following: there is a question that interests me or describes a problem similar to the one that I am also trying to solve. The number of responses is zero. Sad, I think. Well, what to do, I’ll come in, read, maybe there will be something like that in the question itself. I open it, and in the comments, it turns out that someone gave the most natural solution to the problem. Only you won’t find out about it until you look there - from the side the question looks abandoned.
Why do this? I have two guesses so far:

  1. The respondent himself is not sure that the answer is correct, and does not want to goof off, as they say, in front of everyone;
  2. The respondent is afraid that someone would think that, they say, such a trifle as points for correct answers is important to him.

The correct wording is:

1. The respondent himself is not sure that the answer is correct, and does not want to goof off, as they say, in front of everyone;

1. The answerer is not sure himself
2. The respondent is afraid that someone would think that, they say, such a trifle as points for correct answers is important to him.

The answerer does not consider his answer to be something too important, also because he does not consider this question important (apparently because the answer is obvious or is found on the first 1-3 links in Google).
What is there to be afraid of or goof off - it is not clear. Answer incorrectly, you will be corrected, you will become smarter. If you answer correctly, you will help. If you answer incorrectly, no one will notice - well, figs with him.

option number 1. only the respondent doesn’t care at all, he doesn’t want to if he made a mistake with the answer. some newbie will use it and it will be "everything is lost"))))
on the 2nd point, most IT people strictly do not care, they are fine with self-esteem. and who is there and what he thinks about him usually does not matter)

Sometimes it is not clear what exactly the author of the message wants. Therefore, there are clarifying questions and solutions.
As the discussion proceeds, a solution may emerge. The author is satisfied with this option, and he no longer appears in the question, since he solved his problem. And the respondent was distracted by other tasks.

I'm not worried, I immediately write in the answers.

Sometimes the answer seems to be a perfect petty trifle, which is searched for in Google in five minutes, and you write it because you know / recently searched / are in the mood to have a drink ...

They do not identify their message as a full-fledged answer, but write it as reasoning or considerations. Useful, that is, bringing the questioner closer to the answer.
//And some are still afraid to LOWER their percentage of decisions in the profile, I think. This is someone like professional answerers. They go into comments if they think their answer will not be marked as a solution. I saw a discussion a couple of times (in the comments), at the end of which the answerer wrote something like this: “Now, since we figured it out, I’ll write normally in the answer box” o_O
