Why do manufacturers recommend connecting the USB cable first, and only then the device?

Goodnight.
The instructions for the mp3 player say that first you need to connect the usb cable to the computer, and only then - connect the device to the usb cable (and vice versa, first disconnect the device from the cable, and only then disconnect the cable from the computer). Why? In my opinion, there is no difference, I always plugged the cable into the device first, and then connected the whole thing to the computer. Reinsurance against idiots, or does it make sense?

@Heian

If they have a cable with a non-standard connector on the side of the player and does not contain a difference in the size of the ground contacts, then the rest of the contacts make sense.
Ground must be connected before power is applied to the device.
