Why can't I set the resolution to 2K on the NVIDIA GeForce GT 440 graphics card?

Are you connecting via HDMI? You may have an old/cheap cable.
Well, since a friend had a similar problem, but with an amdsh card, when the driver failed, it was cured by reinstalling it.
According to the characteristics there HDMI 1.3a. 2560 × 1440 at 60 Hz is the limit for this version of the standard. If that doesn't work, then change the cable.
Do you by chance raise the frequency above 60Hz?
It simply does not support such a resolution (most likely).
