Why can't I remake authorization in Yii 2.0?

Good afternoon!
I'm trying to rewrite authorization in advanced app in Yii 2.0:
https://github.com/yiisoft/yii2-app-advanced/blob/...
For learning purposes, I'm trying to have the user enter user: admin password: admin, and it was redirected to some page after that.
But I can't do it. An error is thrown:

Call to a member function validatePassword() on a non-object

although validatePassword should logically return a boolean value.
User.php looks like this:
<?php
namespace common\models;

use Yii;
use yii\base\NotSupportedException;
use yii\behaviors\TimestampBehavior;
use yii\db\ActiveRecord;
use yii\base\Model;
use yii\web\IdentityInterface;

/**
 * User model
 *
 * @property integer $id
 * @property string $username
 * @property string $password_hash
 * @property string $password_reset_token
 * @property string $email
 * @property string $auth_key
 * @property integer $role
 * @property integer $status
 * @property integer $created_at
 * @property integer $updated_at
 * @property string $password write-only password
 */
class User extends Model implements IdentityInterface
{
    const STATUS_DELETED = 0;
    const STATUS_ACTIVE = 10;
    const ROLE_USER = 10;
    public $password = 'admin';

     */
    public function removePasswordResetToken()
    {

}

And question number two: do I understand correctly that routing in case of a successful login() should be done in the SiteController?
