Why can't I boot Ubuntu 13.10 from a flash drive?

Created a bootable flash drive using UNetbootin. Set the bios to boot from a flash drive. I reboot the black screen and the blinking cursor. I also tried the Lili USB creator utility, the result is the same.
And so I wanted to put Ubuntu on an unnecessary laptop and try so to speak.

@sets88

most likely you will need to update the BIOS, or try other bootloaders

Then here it is
There we download the program and do not read anything.
We insert the flash drive and run the program. If it is determined, then remove the daw in front of the find and put the second one from the bottom and indicate the path to the image.
this program will make the bootloader of the image, it doesn't care what's in the image and will send the whole iso
Is there a computer with Linux?

The flash drive is working. Runs on another machine. bios problem. Give us the info: manufacturer, version, what boot options it offered (usb-hdd/usb-zip/usb-fdd/usb-cdrom) and what you chose. Maybe plop will help .
