Why can't energy be stored in ions?
People have long been learning to separate gases into positive and negative ions. Why is it not possible after separation to accumulate them in separate reservoirs, and then let them into the chamber and receive energy through recombination?

Ions for that and ions that tear off electrons for themselves from everything that is possible - and therefore it is difficult to keep them in anything. As soon as people learn how to accumulate energy in ions, the first thing they will do is an ion gun, and then they will look for peaceful applications ...
Because individual ions, like individual electrons, create very large fields that will attract these separated entities with great force.
