Why are the vertices not highlighted?

I made a model of a soldier, everything would be fine, but after combining all the parts (arms, legs, head, beret, etc.) into one object, I can no longer edit other objects except for the cape.
Ps (Combined all the objects on the cape one by one. Version Blend 2.9)
