Why are android application interfaces written in XML?

Interfaces can generally be written in java. But it is long and indistinct.
Chose as an intermediary XML
Schema is easily extensible. Easy to convert to a visual representation in the editor
and standard UI elements. We read by ourselves.
HTML is a special case of XML.
