Why are 90% of customers on the freelance exchange scammers or blackmailers?

Hello. I've been trying to freelance for a month now. Maybe Fortune does not smile at me or something else, but 90% of customers turn out to be scammers or begin to blackmail. Let's say the order was for layout, and the customer begins to blackmail that if I don't put the layout on the CMS, then he will put a negative review. Although I treat the customer with all my heart, I work without prepayment because the rating is not high, I don’t break prices, I don’t break deadlines.
Maybe it is worth leaving Russian exchanges for foreign ones? maybe the usual mentality is to blame, in which it is laid down to throw and grind a person.
Sorry. It hurts!

Protko @Fesor

Because on the freelance exchange, 90% of the workers are scammers and assholes.

You came to the gray sector of the market for quick money without tax deductions. You are not officially there, you are not officially working, and this issue is not officially there either.

I'm afraid in this case you simply did not appreciate what the customer wanted from you.
Try to look at it from his point of view. Here he says "do the layout." You think that behind this lies "implement the layout and pass hrml and css". With a probability of 99%, for the customer, behind this is: "implement pixel by pixel as on the layout, pull it onto the site, add processing of new elements in the controller, make a change to the database so that all this is supported." The customer certainly does not think it all in such words. He just thinks that if you lay out a five-star product evaluation element on his page, then it should work. He does not know that behind this is not only a picture, but a bunch of js, a complicated server part, etc.
The shorter the customer's requirements, the more he means by them.
It is you who must explain to him what he asks and what he will receive, because when what he receives does not match what he expects, it will be your fault, even if he asked you for exactly what he received.

Caution is needed here.
There are many ways to protect yourself: prepayment, contract, SBR, do not give the source until full payment, in case of layout, you can show the result through teamviewer. But the main thing is to know which orders to take and which not .

Because you have to work on Odessa there is a fully guaranteed payment by the hour from the exchange.

Link to your account and layout - to the studio.
Most likely, you did not properly evaluate your skills in layout and decided to "try" to earn.
Excuse me, but then - the Customer is right.
I agree with Sergei Protko and you (comment): this is indeed the situation now.
You need to learn how to "swim" in this swamp. And better - count only on your own strength. "Alien" - do not take it to work: it will be worse and only for you. (The Customer does not have a portfolio, he changed his nickname and that's it...) Learn by yourself, not by the Clients.
About freelance trolls - generally keep quiet. (you will still encounter ...)
TOTAL: A safe deal or agreement - so that both parties turn on the brain!

More experience is needed to understand where honest people are . But anyway, having 6 years of experience, I don’t work without an advance payment .
You might think that not everyone will agree to an advance payment.
There is such a thing. To do this, you need to have a decent portfolio , a sufficient number of positive reviews , and if you work with webmoney - BL !

You are not choosing the right freelance exchanges. Tembolee there are many forums where you can offer your services and people there are much more honest.

1) The contract and a deposit, without a deposit immediately the price is + 50% and payment for the stages and not the work as a whole, so that in a maximum of a week you can understand whether the customer pays.
2) Do not give the work before payment, you can show it remotely, shoot a video, or even broadcast it on Skype, but not any source files on hand.
3) At the first sign of blackmail or brain intercourse, return the deposit and break all relations with such a customer, it will only be more expensive, so don’t be greedy, it’s better to lose 2 normal ones by mistake than to run into a brain peck.
4) Leave the Russian exchanges, there is less money there, and more inadequate ones.
If you work well, over time you will acquire regular customers and will miss word of mouth - it will become much easier.

I read the answers above. It is not necessary to take an advance payment for each sneeze. It is enough not to give the source files before payment - this is just very tough with this (even if they ask a lot). For layout, you can obfuscate from above so that your own mother does not recognize. Plus a clear statement of requirements, point by point. Do you need only layout or also an engine? If the latter, then the price is such and such.

I work as a freelancer and as a customer and as a performer.
As a "customer" I will say - I do not need a "burp" of the code. We need a smart decision. For this, I write detailed technical specifications, otherwise you can only blame yourself. I had nails hammered head down and theoretically the job was done.
As a "performer" - find out all the details before starting work. Mercantile, customers like it.
Everything else has been said above. Prepayment. TK, Evaluation of one's strengths.

On freelance.ru, this is due to a special policy of the site. A very limited time is given for writing a review (1 month after the completion of the project). Therefore, if the contractor continues to promise, persuade to wait, and in every way delays the development, then the review is not accepted later.
Contacting the moderator of the freelance.ru service, unfortunately, does not help (to do this, you need to conduct all correspondence only through the workspace, which is not always convenient).
On other fl.ru and weblancer.net services, the situation is better and, with the right selection, you can find a performer.
I also ran into a "freelancer" from freelance.ru: Igor Lobastov
received the money and disappeared https://freelance.ru/Dzeto (formerly fastprogramming) [email protected]
