Why are 8-socket systems virtually non-existent, and why is Intel releasing the E7-88xx?

E7-88xx. The coolest Intel processors for 8-processor systems. Which... don't exist. Is that System x3950 X6 from Lenovo. And this is, in principle, understandable. It turns out very expensive and unprofitable. Moreover, you can combine as many simpler servers as you like through InfiniBand (which is what they do in supercomputers). And it turns out that there are few buyers for 8-processor systems for a six-figure sum, since competitors are in no hurry to roll out analogues.
And one of two questions arises:
1. Why does Intel need a processor that no one needs?
or
2. Why does practically no one make a computer on a processor that someone still needs?

1) In each line they always make one processor, the one that is top-end. And then, during the testing process, defective parts are turned off, for whom the frequency is lower, for whom the cores will be turned off, for whom the cache will be cut, etc. Therefore, there are always few top processors (percentage of the batch), and it is not realistic to earn the main money on them. This is understood by both Intel and server manufacturers. Because stupidly there will be no turnover.
2) There are not so many tasks in which threshers are needed, from a practical point of view, software (which can) loves two servers for 50 rubles more and more often than one for 100.
Here, in fact, the first follows from the second and the second from the first, because . this balance is already a quarter of a century old.
And you are mistaken, not only lenovo makes such servers

As the number of processors grows, the problem of a fight between processors for access to RAM becomes more and more acute.
So eight-processor solutions are not ordinary tasks. Few need them. On them, conventional software will be ineffective.
They make systems.
But we have only heard about these systems.
You probably know about the existence of supercomputers. Can you immediately name where they are used?
Are you aware of the existence of mainframes? But some of them still work according to the principles invented in the mid-1960s. Working and updating...

Oracle sells such systems with some of its products.
