Who can say anything about CMS SiteEdit?

I'll tell you what it is. The site is running on their server under their closed software, and editing is done by working with some client program. Accordingly, everything is hardcoded “out there”.
Minus the main, end-to-end - Vendor Lock.
The first minus is the binding to the system, and there is not even HTML, but some kind of heresy on tabs.
The second minus is the binding to the server, the lack of FTP access as such.
The third minus is that none of the programmers will be able to correct a single line.
Minus the fourth - redesign - only through the company that creates the site (SiteEdit).
Minus the fifth - editing through a special program, having suffered with the keys. Not from anywhere with internet.
Minus the fifth (maybe I'm wrong here) - theoretically, you can edit someone else's site. At least somehow it turned out, not having the key that the customer lost, and the changes had to be made. Where something somehow happened, I don’t know how.
Minus the sixth - increased traffic - the entire site is downloaded and uploaded to the local computer.
Plus the first - you personally do not need to do anything. You can't even. Rest,
Plus the second - the leadership will have a lesson. Because later you will redo everything like people do, it will be negative, but the experience, and everything will be fine.
Plus the third - there is technical support, good, all-in-one.
There was like a site that was being serviced, some glitches were never fixed, because it was impossible.
So DO NOT write a project. There is stupidly no place to write anything.
You can also forget about further expansion. The guide is wrong - the tool should be chosen by the company creating the site. Or the person who creates the site. If management thinks they can create websites, let them try.
Damn, build us a machine-building plant from a toy constructor for building country houses, otherwise we have already bought a bunch of cubes.
But if you have a little money, don't give a damn about further development, SEO optimization, it is possible to pay extra from time to time. services, and you want a simple business card and convenient management - please. But the market is full of companies that will do the same for 3000-700 rubles, the so-called. fast sites, or express sites, incl. online shopping. In any case, look at existing projects, and understand - it will be the same. Not “but here it’s a little different”, but the same thing, absolutely. As a solution for fast automated site creation, the guys made a unique thing that I have not seen anywhere else, and they are great at it.
And the last fact from practice all clients, I repeat, every client who once bought a license for a paid CMS in advance (be it Bitrix, Shopscript or something else), and insisted on it, then remade the site from scratch. Here is such a sad statistic.

ainu! Your information is mostly incorrect:
1. "Minus the main, end-to-end - Vendor Lock." - any link can be removed - you can develop your own design and include your links in it.
2. "The first minus is the binding to the system, and there is not even HTML, but some kind of heresy on tabs." - uses HTML5 and CSS3, JavaScript and more. The design map you write about is designed to automate design management. It is our patented technology that allows you to quickly create a design for the site and then easily manage it in a visual mode.
3. "The second minus is the binding to the server, the lack of FTP access as such." - there is no binding to the server, you can upload it to any hosting. (you probably used a SaaS solution). We also provide FTP in the new SaaS solution.
4. "The third minus is that none of the programmers will be able to correct a single line." - you can edit and create your modules using a separate application SiteEdit Modules dev.edgestile.ru
5. "The fourth minus - redesign - only through the company that creates the site (SiteEdit)." - the redesign is done, and has always been done by any user using the SiteEdit program (you are describing an outdated SaaS solution)
6. "The fifth minus is editing through a special program, having suffered with the keys. Not from any place where there is an Internet connection." - You don't need internet to work with SiteEdit - this is one of the main advantages of this program. It is installed on the user's computer and allows you to develop designs, fill, edit any content without access to the Internet. Internet access will be needed only to upload changes.
7. "Minus fifth (maybe I'm wrong here) - theoretically, you can edit someone else's site." - neither theoretically nor practically someone else's site can be edited if you do not have an active key to access these sites.
"At least it worked out somehow, not having the key, which the customer lost, and the changes had to be made. Where something somehow happened, I don't know how." - If the user has lost the key, it can always be generated, while access using the old key (if it was stolen from your computer) is terminated.
8. "Sixth minus - increased traffic - the entire site is downloaded and downloaded to the local computer." - completely wrong - loading and unloading occurs selectively or only changes. At the same time, traffic is saved, since when uploading and downloading data, the traffic is divided into packets and compressed and encrypted to ensure data security during transmission between the server and the program!
9. "Plus the first one - you personally don't need to do anything. You can't even. Relax," - SiteEdit allows you to create sites of any level of complexity. Since 2002, over 60,000 sites have been created with SiteEdit.
If you do not fully own this or that information, then please contact SiteEdit directly for comments.

I can only say about the management of SiteEdit - very nice people, I met and drank tea with them at the conference. Usually, the adequacy of dough developers is related to the product itself.

Hawno.. Weak, useless thing. I worked with her, I have experience (unfortunately). I don't recommend to anyone. Do you want to quickly make a website without a minimum investment? Learn WordPress, Joomla, Drupal. Do you want a good website? CI, Yii, sf, zend to help you! You should not pay attention to such a trifle, it is not justified in 99, {9} cases out of a hundred. And if your boss interprets such a quick decision... a headhunter will help you.

I have been working with SiteEdit for about 10 years. Suitable for 90% of sites. I can strongly recommend. I think that this commercial CMS has enough advantages to not only use it, recommend it to customers, but pay money for the license

@nickkave

I want to write my review, both about the SiteEdit program itself and about the developer company Edgestyle.
I'll start with Edgestyle - this is a provincial company, with a corresponding, far from professional team, in fact, the entire program is written by one and only person, Sergei Shchelkonogov, so everything depends on him. In the sales department, the partner department, there are absolutely incompetent and rude women, whose previous job was trading in the market and men who worked as spare parts sellers. There were normal designers, but they swam away - leaving for free bread. The program itself is distributed through an affiliate program built on the principle of network marketing. Technical support works only on weekdays and from 10 am to 5 pm Moscow time, sometimes it took several days to wait for an answer to tickets. The company constantly feels a lack of funds, so it tries to make money on any services imposed on users: domain binding, DNS,
Now, as for the program itself: it comes in two forms: standard (on a hosting company), you can create only 1 site for 1 license and alienable - you choose hosting yourself and pay for the license also once. On the Business version, you can make 10 sites with one database.
There is no point in taking standard licenses - since the price for them is very high, and the service, as I said, is no.
Modules in the program are rarely updated and new ones are added, it is possible to develop your own, but they do not work stably, crashing when updating the kernel or the program.
There are only 2-3 dozen free templates, currently there are no paid ones at all.
In general, disgusting soviet service for a lot of money. I do not advise anyone.

I have also been working with Siteedit for 5 years. The main plus is just its closeness, since the project cannot be broken or stolen, as well as certificates for state bodies, kindergartens, schools, municipal enterprises with the provisions of the law. Several people work for one of the moss web studios as programmers and designers . And those who do not understand are screaming bad. Please keep shouting)

Our company Webcenter has been working with this program since 2004. A very successful development. Allows you to create projects of varying complexity. Websites can be created even by those who do not know anything about creating websites. All work is automated. For professional developers their advantages. You can implement any developments, scripts, connect various plugins like fullpage.js, Orbit. Well implemented jQuery, Ajax. Adaptive design. Lots of developments. Sites are well indexed.
