Which virtual reality protocol to choose?

There is a standard oculus rift dk1, is it worth using it when developing your virtual reality helmet. Or is there another thread that is supported by most games?

The first dev kit is not a standard, it is an outdated piece of hardware that a small number of people have. There are no established standards now, as well as consumer versions of helmets. The Oculus SDK, for example, has an API that changes every version, and judging by the news, they create their own platform and ecosystem, so making their own compatible helmet will not work. Sony does not look towards the PC at all and keep to themselves. OSVR is the hardware of the first devkit with its drivers, how well it will develop is not yet clear, they have not shown anything impressive yet.
It makes sense to focus on Valve's OpenVR , at least it will definitely be supported, in addition, there is a plugin for OSVR to work with it.
Generally speaking, since you are asking such a question, then you are clearly not ready to develop your helmet, I would advise you to first read Michael Abrash's blog and watch presentations from Oculus Connect .

From what I know there is:
Steam VR \ OpenVR
Abstraction for game developers, if your helmet is supported by it, then all games for Steam VR will work
OSVR
The Razer project, they just expect other developers to make compatible devices, based on the fact that they developed
Gear VR \ Google Cardboard, but there is nothing to develop there, just an android
