Which video player to choose for OS X?

Bought a new Macmini and as always in this self contained system there is no such thing as a universal video player. I used to use MplayerX, but now it comes with a malware bundle in the form of MacKeeper.
Help finding an alternative. Particularly interested in the opinion of people who used to use MplayerX and switched to a new player.
VLC - more like a combine, it's not very visually appealing to me.
