Which version of Elasticsearch to use?

Hello. I used elastic (~v2.4.4) once, now I installed a new 5.6.0 and the search stopped working. Please tell me which version of elasticsear is best to use now. And is there any reason to use the latest 5.6.0 or can you still leave the old one. Thanks for any info.
