Which microcontroller to choose pic or Atmega?

Are PIC or ATMEGA programmed in assembler?
And which ones do you advise to use, just in the store they offered only these 2 companies to choose from, maybe Ali has links to the most popular ones?
There is a desire to assemble a microcircuit for controlling a small engine, it remains to pick up only a microcontroller and assemble the whole thing.
In general, it is better to program them in C or in assembler, I have not found a clear answer on the Internet.
And through what, what device can they be programmed?

yes - you can write firmware for them using assembler

Canon or Nikon
Coca-cola or Pepsi Atmel
red or green pill
or PIC
...
See what you need for your specific application and choose the right controller based on price. Controllers that the one that the other company, in principle, are equivalent.

And you will not find a clear answer. What does "better" mean? There are a number of tasks that can be performed using only C (for example, development speed, code portability), and there are tasks that cannot be done without assembler - for example, if there are strict limits on the volume and speed of the code.

through the programmer
