Which Linux distribution to choose "to ride", and not to smoke forums and "finish"?
Sat on ubuntu, kubuntu, debian, mint, scientific linux (centos/RH clone). In general, everything works, but, no offense, it is very similar to a Zhiguli - in order to ride them, you need to do something with the carburetor, change some gaskets, ball joints, etc. Judge for yourself, here are the problems from different distributions:
- the win-L screen locks every other time, you click on another window, cheers - it freezes
- it freezes tightly and unexpectedly, sometimes allowing you to move the sticky mouse cursor for several seconds, replacing the video drivers did not help
- we write the command to autorun, but for some reason it does not start
- the touchpad mouse cursor jumps around the screen like crazy
- the synaptic periodically winds up
- raising the VNC server is a problem, and the client has not yet learned how to push Russian letters through the clipboard and falls off every five minutes
- Mint does not hibernate the system if the battery is empty, and it does not even beep: missed - boot from scratch
- Debian at close range refuses to see my WiFi, other distributions see
it - SL swaps for five minutes after waking up, after firefox you have to kill and start again, skype never got up on it, smoking forums did not help
- and another two dozen small, but fed up with problems.
Yes, some of the answers are on the forums. But I have a collection of questions that no one has answered.
Are there foreign-made Linuxes to drive?
And understand, not for the sake of holivar ... I'm ready to learn, but I'm not ready to waste time picking in a non-working one.

> the screen on win-L is locked every other time, you click on another window, cheers - it's blocked
Because the layout in the other window is English. And in Russian it doesn’t work, oh. Hang the second hotkey.
> hangs tightly and unexpectedly, sometimes allowing you to move the sticky mouse cursor for several seconds, replacing video drivers did not help.
Let me guess - intel hd sandy bridge?
> we prescribe the command in autorun, but for some reason it does not start
I press on the gas and the car does not go. (either I didn’t start it, or I forgot to fill it up, or there is no car, or I press the brake). Where is your autostart? The correct one is /etc/rc.local, so what. And there $ PATH is different from the one you have in .bashrc. Well, this is not to mention the fact that you can write the correct init script.
> the touchpad mouse cursor jumps around the screen like crazy
Did you reduce the sensitivity to the speed of movement and the duration of the touch? Or forgot to wash?
> raising the VNC server is a problem, but the client has not yet learned how to push Russian letters through the clipboard and falls off every five minutes
apt-get install vino remmina
Then everything starts up by humming.
However, if you need a vnc server that is independent of running Xs (Windows and Macos without Xs still don’t know how to do this), then yes, you will have to write a script in 10 lines , 1 of which is a step, and 7 is the launch of the necessary applications.
> Mint does not hibernate the system if the battery is empty, and it does not even beep: missed - boot from scratch
I'm more and more convinced that you have either a sandy bridge or an
ivy
bridge
, connected turnips with non-free firmware and put the right one?
> SL swaps for about five minutes after waking up, after firefox you have to kill and start again, skype never got up on it, smoking forums did not help but
yes
, in general you are right - there are a lot of problems in penguins and the comparison with Zhiguli is correct. True, I would compare it with Subaru impreza wrx or mustangs that drive like shit from the factory, but if you dig into them, then you won’t drive other cars later.
Which, however, does not negate the fact that all your "problems" are solved offhand in about one minute, except for hardware problems with an unsuccessful series of bridges from Intel, for which they have been unable to write normal drivers for acpi / video for two years.
Go to some strange forums, gentlemen. At IRC, we used to click hundreds of such problems a day.
Well, the most suitable distribution for you should be Ubuntu 12.04 without the nasty Unity, with the Orthodox Gnome Classic + compiz mode.
At least iron would be specified.
In general, Linux is such a thing that you must first properly configure it, and only then ride and never climb under the hood again.
It's like complaining about javascript that it's hard to build a backend on it - so many callbacks
It's like complaining about a Zhiguli saying that it drives slowly
It's like complaining about a Mustang saying that it eats a lot
It's like complaining about a pen that it doesn't erase when it needs to
It's like complaining about a pencil that at the most inopportune moment after 10 it has already been
erased
. yusb klava falls off
And in a trifle still happens
But as a browser and platform for development - it's much cheaper than a poppy and much better than windows.
Is there anything unambiguous in life that solves all problems? :)
PS subjective opinion, drawing an analogy, that if you know Zen in slack or gent, then the touchpad may not work, but you won't notice it, because. it will not be a nix-way to use it, and for this reason - it will be a "distribution kit configured 1 time to the ideal". So, again, it's all subjective.
- hangs tightly and unexpectedly, sometimes allowing you to move the sticky mouse cursor for several seconds, replacing video drivers did not help
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wsnipex/vaapi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install i965-va-driver
1) Please write to the developers about your problems, often they can be solved within a week or a few, but not always, this is a fact
2) Before buying hardware, ask if people have problems? For example, in Windows there are eternal problems with AMD hybrid graphics if the OS is preinstalled - after reinstalling it is often not trivial to find firewood - therefore I will never take Packard Bell or HP
In general, although I live on nightly assemblies - there are a couple of bugs, but not critical. I installed the system about 2 years ago, since then I haven’t changed it (upgraded / downgraded only) and I don’t see a problem every few years to sit for a day and set it up.
As for the bugs - part of it is exclusively a DE problem and has no direct relation to the distribution kit, since any DE can be installed. Firewood on Wi-Fi - this is for the Linux kernel developers (or the Debian kernel team to look at) - they apparently have something missing in the stock kernel, Ubuntu kindly made a patch for the kernel. VNC seems to be present and working out of the box in Ubuntu, I don’t know what you put there.
Synaptic is coming to Ubuntu 14.04, it started about two weeks before the release, in my opinion this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic... To
sit and not admit to anyone that you have problems - the main problem is that Apple has a very limited number of models and components, Windows has significantly more users, and here part of the stability of work depends on you.

One of the leaders in terms of stability, as for me, is Ubuntu (Unity). Exotic also works quite well, but anything can happen in certain configurations.
CentOS 6.5 has everything you need based on RedHat. For the server that is necessary.
I think Ubuntu will suit you. It is ideal for the user who is starting to use Linux. If you need to build yourself - please Arch Linux.
