Which Linux distribution do you recommend?

Subject. I like ubuntu, but it has already become more voracious than Windows, in connection with this I would like to move to something no less beautiful, but lighter. I tried Xubuntu, but outwardly, of course, slag, I like Mint, but I'm not sure that there will be resource savings compared to ordinary ubuntu. Preference for debian-like distributions, at the very least hat. Do it yourself - do not want to at all.
PS The computer is not firewood, you do not need to update (haswell i7). I just want to use resources for applications, not the shell, but I don’t want to look terrible either.
PPS I also typeset sometimes. without GUI I won't survive :)

You don't have to choose between Linux distributions. You need, starting from the tasks that the computer tool is designed to solve , select and install the appropriate graphical environment . You can also take a look at the summary graph of consumed resources , although, in my opinion, you are viewing the problem under a microscope, thereby exaggerating its scale. If your computer has modern hardware, and the Haswell i7 points to that, then you probably won't feel the difference no matter what you do with it.

Install Gnome, it's quite economical. It is not necessary to change the distribution for this.

Bagtrack is the best for you if you want to spend resources correctly)
I like Mint KDE, it's less greedy than in ubuntu.

Only gentoo, with your wishes. The graphical interface is not recommended.
