Which laptop to choose for backend development in 2020?

Which laptop to choose for backend development in 2020?
Actually, to
OS details: Now I work permanently under Windows 10, I also had experience on linux (ubuntu + unity), but I would prefer not to return to the latter.
RAM: The PC costs 32GB, of which 16-18 are always filled with OS + IDE + docker + browser, I'm not sure exactly, but I think a laptop with 8GB of RAM will not last long. Therefore, I'm looking for from 16GB
Other:
Considered a bunch of ultrabooks, all have no more than 8GB of RAM (which is actually immediately swept aside).
I’m looking in the direction of the MacBook Pro 16, but I’ve never dealt with it and I’m afraid that there will be problems with the docker, judging by the reviews, although someone says that everything is ok at 16, maybe someone works on MB Pro 16 and will tell you why it’s still worth it take.
I also looked at gaming laptops, they generally correspond to the parameters (16GB of RAM + Windows), but they are repelled by a terrible appearance, bulkiness and low autonomy, a lifespan of 2-3 years in portable mode, but in general you can play in your free time.

Actually, I need advice about a working machine with 16GB of RAM, good portability, nice looks and speed.

I don't know a single self-respecting backender on poppies. Mostly Macs are used by front-end developers, designers and managers.
Truly backenders choose a laptop for their specific needs. Usually it is SSD+HDD, RAM>=16 Gb, good matrix, keyboard backlight, preferably a discrete video card for high load, Intel for virtualization and other goodies.
Poppy in this regard is usually heavily cropped and therefore not suitable. Plus the price tag for this cut stub is off the charts.

A lot of backend developers I know work on 15 year old firmware and everything is ok.
I have firmware 16, everything works fine (I'm a front-end developer), but I guess since they work on firmware 15, then the new firmware will definitely fit.

You have 16-18 are constantly busy. Those. according to your tasks, it is guaranteed that you need more than 18 RAM. And it is better with a margin. Everything is developing rapidly. Because it is more difficult to upgrade a laptop, choose at least where there is an opportunity to "deliver" memory if that. But with such memory costs for comfortable work, I would not even consider below 32.
But, at the same time, why a laptop? I have a stationary computer for a permanent job, with sufficient performance, but for trips - a laptop. At what not new - delivered memory to the maximum. You can work on the go. But not as "freely" as on a stationary one.
In general, look at the tasks - monitor resources. Think about what you are willing to sacrifice.

if you don't need macos, then thinkpads
If stationary and rarely portable, then legion y5 series (I have one, spent 100K, 32 RAM, i7)

Look towards the dell xps 15, I have a 2019 model (in this model, you can change the RAM up to 32GB).

Didn't find what you were looking for?
