And if png then are hdpi and mdpi permissions used?

The answer to the question "which is better - raster or vector graphics?" has not changed for a quarter of a century.
If you need arbitrary scaling and are not afraid of overhead - a vector.
If you can get by with preliminarily qualitatively scaled pictures and resources are limited, as well as in all cases where a vector is not needed in principle - a raster.
