Which is better, a black background or a white one?

Good afternoon dear friends!
I'm starting a small project. The point is that in the center of the page there will be a single search bar with a search button, just like in Google, but it will not be a search, but something else, similar to a landing page.
I want to know which background is better for the entire site: white, gray, or dark (#303030). I want to make it dark, because will look more "cool", but will it be convenient to look at the search result (and these are graphics) against such a background.
Community, what is your opinion on this?

Black backgrounds are fun until you want to put ads on your site or something that you don't have much control over.
Graphs on a black background look great, oscilloscopes will not let you lie. Another question is that the existing libraries for working with graphs on a black background were not particularly checked, expect pitfalls.

Dark is more readable, light in the style of web2.0

Make it dark. If you like it, leave it; if you don't, take it off.
With a dark background it will be more interesting.

If we proceed from convenience in further use, then of course white is in the top. Most images, graphics, ad units, ready-made solutions, color schemes, etc. imprisoned for a white background because it is the most readable. Of course, you can try brutal black, but, believe me, you will be tormented in the future :)

I would stop on a white background with black letters
But it's not so simple.
First, everyone has different preferences. Someone likes funeral black more, someone on a blue background makes it more convenient to read yellow letters, and someone from such combinations has bunnies in their eyes. Type up the page and let people appreciate the visual picture, not
the abstract concept. Secondly, the choice of color depends on what else will be on the page. Banners, ads, blocks, search results or whatever.
Once again: without a visual picture it is impossible to judge.

After looking at a huge number of sites, I realized that the best thing is a light background and black letters. It is much more readable and does NOT hurt the eyes.
