What computer games do you know in which you can create your own full-fledged AI?

Blizzard recently released bot programming tools for StarCraft , but generally speaking, this is more of an exception than the rule. Making games is difficult in itself, and maintaining an external API just for two or three programmers to play with is not very profitable. Of course, there are games purely about programming, for example CodeCombat , there are quite a lot of them, there is even a special section on Steam , but usually bots fight bots in them. Alternatively, you can look for open source games like Quake or Doom .
