Which engine to choose for developing a cross-platform text-based game?
Hey Toaster. The essence of the problem is this.
There is an idea for the development of a text game, with the condition of its cross-platform between desktop OS (Windows, MacOS, Linux). From knowledge: JavaScript (Node.js), HTML5, CSS.
Can't choose the right engine. In fact, all that is required is support for various standard HTML attributes, such as sliders, dropdowns, text entry fields, text fields themselves, drag & drop, and, in addition, support for sprites. As well as the simplest support for sound design and animation, and the ability to write code, and not just place objects around the stage, of course.
If the needs are too simple, then it might make sense to write your own engine, but I don't know where to start. In general, I will be glad to any advice on where to dig.
> PSI tried Construct 2 and Unity, but in the first case, too much emphasis is placed on visual programming, which does not suit me, and in the case of Unity, I consider it irrational to use it, since the platform is far from sharpened for text games and includes a lot of extra for my project.

How do you look at embedding a browser application and simply accessing the game page on the Internet?
I would still recommend Unity.
Fungus
A lot of good text-based games have been made with this framework if anything can always be programmed.
