Which CMS to choose for a large information portal?

I plan to create a large information portal. And I need to choose a CMS. When posting a CMS integration freelance project, many people suggested WordPress to me. And then I thought…
A couple of years ago I heard the opinion that using WP for large-scale sites is stupid and irrational, that we should look towards Joomla, Drupal and DLE.
Do Joomla, Drupal and DLE have significant advantages over WP when it comes to creating a large portal? If so, which ones?
Do you know any other CMS that is the best option for my purposes?

I think you made the wrong choice. on any of the cms, on any framework, you can implement the functionality you need. but the programmer will implement it, and the quality of the execution of your task will depend on this programmer. an inexperienced programmer can do something poorly workable on an excellent engine.
hence, it is worth first of all to focus on the level of programmers available to you.
the next item is the cost of site support/administration. if you have chosen a rare cms or ordered a completely self-written solution, get ready to increase the cost of all subsequent edits. the editor's training may also take longer.
ceteris paribus, it is better to choose the more common cms.
then - development speed. writing code "for you" can be delayed. it is more profitable to launch the first version as soon as possible, and immediately start writing a more complex version. and after launch, it may suddenly turn out that the simple version does a great job.
as an example of siliconrus.com - they launched on WordPress, got promoted, changed the engine. or the reverse example - roem.ru - on the contrary, they worked for a long time, then changed the engine to WordPress.
a little higher you were told about techcrunch.
In a nutshell, you can choose any.
but I would recommend WordPress) WP development is now cheaper on average, there are many developers, there is a huge amount of material on the Internet

1. What does big mean?
2. What should be the functionality?
3. How much are you willing to spend on customization and maintenance?
In short, take any.

For the news portal, any of the above will do. And every web master will praise the cms with which he works

tsms are not used for any large and / or developing web projects - maybe sooner or later the moment will come when the crutch will become completely inconvenient and you will have to redo everything from 0

Large projects do not write on CMS. What you are offered is just the specifics of the freelance infrastructure, customers give a demand for WordPress executors focused on WordPress (Drupal, Joomla ...) and so on in a circle.
Joomla, Drupal and DLE - this can be worse than Wordpress. Wordpress still has a lot of users, the team is working actively.
An example of hard customization and acceleration of wordpress is the notorious techcrunch.com (I don’t answer for the latest version, it’s not a fact that it’s wordpress now) But a lot has been rewritten there. If you remember previous versions of techcrunch, this is an example of what you can squeeze out of wordpress by rewriting everything.
For comparison, send the TOR, if there is a well-written (!!), in the studio using different technologies.

The only plus of DLE is a good optimization in speed, 25K hosts per day on a weak VDS pulled out)

Everyone advises well, DimasMagadan is right - most likely the initial capital does not amount to hundreds and millions, so it is better to invest in design and development of the structure, and use any CMS for which you can find a good and not expensive specialist, he will quickly launch what you need. And then when you see what has gone uphill, people are coming, the server (or hosting) is already in tension, you need to do it from scratch and preferably on a framework - Laravel, Yee, Felcon or something else, it already depends more on the developer who by then you will find it.
