Where to upload images for the site?

The project has posts. In fact - the usual news.
Images that will be placed in posts, I do not want to place on the site server.

The first thing that came to my mind was Amazon S3. But there is a free period for one year. At the same time, they still ask for a card during registration. So this option is out for me.

What are the free alternatives (except image hosting such as habrastorage).

Still, I want to have a small API.

A couple of things came to my mind:
1. You depend on third-party services and how they work. If their server went down, the pictures disappeared (but, on the other hand, every site now depends on some service);
2. If another blocking of some site results in Amazon cdn blocking, then, as you understand, all images will become inaccessible to users who do not use foreign vpn.
I don't think there's a silver bullet here, and you should do the stupid thing that suits you best. If for some reason you do not want to place images on your server, then place them at least on dropbox, at least on Amazon, at least in Yandex.photo :)

Buy a second vps (a lot of space, the rest is at a minimum) and pour all the statics there in any convenient way (ftp, ssh, etc.).

As already mentioned - to your host is the most correct solution.
The easiest solution with social networking contact, such as pull

Why not actually? The same imgur has an API, I think it's not the only one.
And so - your storage. Of course it's not free.
