Where to take orders for sites?

Where can I get an order for website development? I am familiar with freelancing, but I heard there are places where they charge even more for sites

All freelance sites are listed above, but there are other options:
1. Call or write letters to various companies that have poor quality sites. And offer them to make new sites at low prices or completely free. Just do not engage in global spam, but treat each client individually - this is felt when you read letters. What will you get in return:
- the number of works in the portfolio will increase,
- people who visit these sites will see the logo \ link to the author of these works and can go to you through them and place an order (create advertising platforms, so to speak),
- word of mouth - through those to whom you have made sites,
- after some time, the owners of these sites will return to you so that you add / replace something on the site, thereby you will have permanent orders.
2. Make your personal or professional blog with a portfolio banner. By doing this, you will increase your loyalty to yourself and people who read you will order work from you.

If you plan to seriously engage, then it is best to get to know each other. Ask familiar entrepreneurs, people working in different companies. It has been verified: if you do everything at the highest level for your person, a lot of people will come through him. In addition, you need to promote yourself through different ways (blogging, the same accounts on exchanges, your website, business cards).
Freelance sites are, of course, also good, but there I work orders and good customers are one out of a hundred. You need to learn how to filter.

Participate in tenders. Only there are normal profitable projects.

elance.com is perhaps the most serious of the freelance sites, but it needs a good rating and reviews to get normal orders. So you will have to do about 5 projects, mainly for reviews (you can also do small ones).
I have been working for elance for a total of 12 years. Now I am not looking for orders, but I only answer projects that invite me to. And then, there are 3 regular clients that I work for.

If you do well, you have communication skills - i.e. you can interrogate the customer on the topic of what he really needs, understand it and do it - then word of mouth will feed you.
