Where to start humanitarianism?
Hello. Recently, more and more often I began to wonder what I would like to do in my life. I'm already quite old, I'll be 25 soon. I spent the last 7 years as if in suspended animation, spontaneously floundering in a swamp of depression and unwillingness to do anything. Education humanitarian, studied reluctantly and through force, not finding the determination to change something. But lately, I have been very interested in the IT-sphere, programming in particular. I don't remember that recently I took up any activity with such enthusiasm. Now I am studying Java according to Herbert Shield's textbook, I really want to write my own simple indie-2d toy. I would like to know if there were precedents in your experience when relatively elderly people mastered the basics of programming at the level sufficient for autonomous and productive work? And there is a question regarding the necessary knowledge to work in game development: what knowledge should I have? What school textbooks do I need to dust off, and should I take courses in Probability Theory and Analytical Geometry?

24 years. Yes, you are young man.
Why are you looking for proof that someone succeeded?
You have the most important fuel - enthusiasm.
Take and write your simple indie-2d toy.
The necessary books and lessons will be found on the way to finding unusual solutions.
As a humanist, you have an advantage. Not a technical look.

I met stories in the comments about successful entries into programming from scratch at the age of 50. in general, there are hundreds of examples when pensioners under 70 and above begin to master a new profession (although programming is not strictly here). For example, Japan or China - at the subconscious level, a passion for constant study. about mathematics - here is an article , in other words, for 9 classes you will have to close topics + analytical geometry and linear algebra for 1 course mat. faculty (but there without much delving). in general, it would be nice to solve something from here
I won’t scare you with the fact that game development and programming is a directly unattainable space science, but get ready that in the near future (at least 1-3 years) you will sit within four walls behind textbooks.
