Where to look for ./android file when installing sdk?

I installed the sdk with the command sudo apt-get install android-sdk. Added the ANDROID_HOME variable, added the paths to tools and platform-tools to the PATH variable. But the android command never became available. :( Moreover, I could not find such a file in the sdk folder. How to be?
