Where is the sound better than in Skype?

I use Skype to communicate in class, no video.

In Skype, the sound is like from a toilet - my ears hurt.

What are some alternative mob apps with good sound?

The bottom line is that modern communication software works with scalable codecs that affect the width of the channel (allocated for sound). Skype uses the SILK audio codec, which is not scalable. As a result, the sound comes in the quality that suits ordinary users, the closest comparison is a conversation over a cellular connection. With such a codec, the minimum delay is obtained, but the encoding is fast, however, the sound quality suffers. It is better to look towards more modern software that uses the Opus codec - it supports scaling: if the channel is weak, the sound will be worse, if it is stable, the sound will be at the appropriate level. Opus is available from the well-known Zoom, from Russian ones - from TrueConf, for example. You can also try solutions that use WebRTC technology.

The sound is the same plus or minus. But the ears are important. Buy for example plantronics 720 great headset.
