Where is performance better, with XML or JAVA?

I want to create a simple reference book on android, I
tried to create elements - buttons, layouts, text.
All this can be created using XML as well as using JAVA.
Interested in the question, where the performance of the application will be better,
when using XML or JAVA? Thank you
