Where do you put your old hardware?

Over the years, a huge amount of old hardware accumulates in the apartment of any IT professional or enthusiast. And personally in my case for the most part serviceable. A bucket of hard drives of 40-120 gigabytes, all sorts of small DIMMs, a huge tale scanner (it’s quite functional, but I don’t have a desktop where you can shove a SCSI card), modems (Zyxel Omni56k, USR Sportster, USR Courier, etc.), any network cards and so on. It doesn’t take a hand to take out an excellent working piece of iron to an ordinary garbage dump in the rain, there doesn’t seem to be any special computer garbage cans where anyone needs to be taken away, like in America and Switzerland, in Eastern Europe, to sell / give away - nafig nobody needs for nothing. The question, of course, is rhetorical, but suddenly someone will advise something sensible ...

In my case, this equipment goes to practical classes for students, for example, non-working network cards, an adsl modem, a non-working switch served as excellent donors for the layout. Working equipment also took part in the educational process. 2 test benches were assembled.
If this decision suits you, please contact the representative of the educational institution.

In my case, nothing is thrown away, old disks are not fast, but quite tenacious if there is no damage to the mechanics, great for storing movies, torrents and similar unneeded but space-consuming trash. As for the rest, you can place an ad on the site of free ads in your city, given the rise in prices for all components in recent years, they will tear off any junk with their hands, just not to give big money for the same HDD, for example.

There is also a forum for all retro lovers:

There is a site for lovers of old computer technology "Polygon of ghosts" (www.phantom.sannata.ru) - there people will come and take it with pleasure.

For example, many schools in our country have a problem with the provision of computers, the park of 2002-2004-2006, something is constantly breaking down and the old one is being looked for for repair. Of course, the situation in your schools may or may not be better: then it’s good to give back to the schools.

I solder non-working boards into radio elements (capacitors, transistors, etc.) In hard drives, magnets are valuable, I also made a knife sharpener from them :) And for others, you can come up with an application

I rent on the 1st floor of the entrance with a brief description of what kind of iron, and whether it works.
Everything is taken away in 2-3 hours :)

I usually give it to my acquaintances to "dissect" various electronics.
