Where could the file have gone?

A Word document was created and saved to a USB flash drive.
During the editing process, it was repeatedly saved.
But in the end, when the file was needed, it turned out that it simply disappeared.
Showing hidden files didn't work.
Computer search returned no results.
By chance, he couldn't leave.

As the first option, your controller could put the flash drive into read-only mode. But refrain from testing this assumption by copying new files to it.
Second - how did you remove the flash drive from the computer, if at all? Clicked on the tray icon to safely eject?
In any case, do not write any new data there now, download a file recovery program (it's free) and do a full scan of the flash drive.
Given that the document has been saved many times, I think that at least intermediate versions should be found.
